Eastside Kia
As two of the world's most popular SUVs, the Kia Telluride and Volkswagen Atlas feature quiet, comfortable cabins loaded with advanced technology, impressive handling, and more than enough space for the average family. Here's a look at how they match up in many of the more important categories.
As we discussed in our in-depth 2020 Kia Telluride review it is full of entertainment options as standard. Both the Telluride and Atlas come with first-rate entertainment systems controlled by easy to read and intuitive colour touchscreens - 203-mm for the Telluride compared to the smaller 165-mm on the Atlas. Bluetooth streaming, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto smartphone connectivity are also built into each system, as well. Kia's UVO link provides in-car connectivity for the Telluride, while the Atlas uses Volkswagen's App-Connect interface. UVO link lets owners access features like remote start, lock/unlock, and find my car from a compatible cell phone app.
Both vehicles have large comfortable cabins with three rows and room for eight. Overall, the Telluride and Atlas have almost identical numbers when it comes to interior space, with the Telluride offering slightly more passenger volume than the Atlas. The Telluride also features separate climate controls for the second and third-row passengers.
When it comes to buying a 2020 Kia Telluride or Atlas, they both check all the boxes when it comes to safety. Along with a full suite of airbags, the two come with plenty of other active and passive safety features, as well. Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning, and Forward Collision Warning are just of few of many advanced safety technologies found on both vehicles.
The Telluride and Atlas come with almost identical DOHC 24-valve V-6, direct fuel injection engines with aluminum heads and only their block materials differ (iron for the Atlas versus a lighter aluminum block for the Telluride). The Telluride also does a bit better in the power category at 291-Horsepower compared to 276-horsepower for the Atlas.
Although the Kia Telluride and Volkswagen Atlas match up somewhat similar in many categories, they do differ in many ways, as well. The chart below should help sort things out:

While the chart above points out the many similarities between 2020 Kia Telluride and Volkswagen Atlas, it also highlights some significant differences, as well. While either choice will serve buyers well, a lower price, and an overall higher level of standard features almost certainly make the Telluride, the clear choice.
