With bold looks, all-weather handling, and rugged capability, the 2021 Kia Sorento and 2021 Toyota Highlander are two popular choices for drivers in Calgary. While the Highlander has the name recognition, it is easy to see all the advantages that the Sorento has once a side-by-side comparison is done.
The Kia Sorento received a complete redesign for the 2021 model year. Its bolder exterior style draws more attention to itself thanks to new LED taillights and a prominent hexagonal-patterned grille. The lowest wo trim levels feature a 2.5-litre four-cylinder GDI engine that delivers 191 horsepower while mid- and upper-level trims bring the power with a 281-hp 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder GDI engine that offers more get-up-and-go for drivers in Calgary.
On the other hand, Toyota offers only one engine option for the 2021 Highlander, which is a 3.5-litre V6 that delivers 295 horsepower.
Starting at $33,995, the 2021 Kia Sorento comes in six model configurations in Calgary and across Canada: LX+, LX Premium, X-Line, EX, EX+, and SX. Every model features all-wheel drive (AWD, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and driver-assist technology such as lane following assist and advanced forward collision avoidance assist.
Starting at $40,450, Toyota offers five model options for the Highlander: L, LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited. The base L model features front-wheel drive (FWD) while the others include AWD. All models include an 8-inch touchscreen and smartphone connectivity, smart key with push button start, heated front seats, Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, and blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert.
In the end, drivers in Calgary will find that the 2021 Kia Sorento offers a better value than the 2021 Toyota Highlander. It will cost drivers an extra $10,000 to get the lowest-priced Highlander with AWD compared to the lowest-priced Kia. With more luxury, more performance, better fuel economy, and more, the 2021 Kia Sorento is the right choice for drivers in Calgary.
