The 2023 Kia Sorento looks pricier than it is. The interior is ultramodern and beautiful, with stunning attention to detail. In the base model, there’s more hard plastic than soft. It was built with quality and durability in mind.

Bluetooth/Nav

Kia Sorento's touchscreens are 8 and 10.3 inches. Both touch screens have clear menus, crisp images, and quick responses. Android Auto works with Apple CarPlay.

Engine, Efficiency, and Results

The Sorento offers many powertrains and front- or all-wheel drive. The base engine is a 2.5-litre inline-four cylinder producing 191 hp. A 281-hp, 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder is optional. The hybrid has a six-speed automatic transmission compared to eight speeds. The SX's turbo four-cylinder provides welcome acceleration, but we hoped it would be more responsive from a stop. The same model has composed handling, a quiet ride, and responsive braking. A turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor give the Sorento hybrid 227 combined horsepower.

The engine and transmission are the same in the higher-powered plug-in hybrid version of the all-wheel-drive Sorento. Still, the latter's electric motor powers up to 261 hp.

New safety features

The new safety features include "Driver Attention Monitoring," "Rear Seat Alert" (to check for kids or pets), and "Safe Exit Assist" (prevents rear-seat passengers from opening the doors if a vehicle is approaching from behind).

Front and rear parking sensors, a 360° parking camera, and a blind spot monitor support the driver (displays a video feed of the blind spot when a turn signal is activated). It also provides a cyclist detection driver aid, with adaptive cruise control with lane centring.

LX Kia Sorento

LX costs $34,999 with an all-wheel drive, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a 191-hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine are standard. Cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, second- and third-row bench seats (seven-passenger arrangement), an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, analog gauges, Bluetooth, six USB ports, HD Radio, a six-speaker stereo, remote keyless entry and a manual liftgate are standard.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, front collision warning, pedestrian recognition, automatic emergency braking, driver-attention monitoring, a rear-seat alert, and safe exit aid.

Kia Sorento EX

The $42,095 EX grade has a 281-hp turbocharged. A power-adjustable passenger seat is also included.

Kia Sorento SX-L LT

A $56,395 SX Prestige. Leather upholstery, heated front, and second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, rear sunshades, surround-view, blind-spot cameras, front parking sensors, and a 120-volt outlet, are provided.
