In choosing the Car of the Year, AJAC evaluated 55 vehicles through months of testing in all weather conditions on roads across Canada. Nearly 70 Canadian automotive journalists considered performance, technology, available features, value, design, and other factors. In the end, the Stinger stood alone. "It gives us great pride to declare the Stinger to be the Canadian Car of the Year," said Mark Richardson, the President of AJAC. Other organizations that have awarded the Stinger include AutoGuide.com, Motoring TV, the Canadian Automotive Jury, and the Reddot Design Award.
The Stinger combines performance with luxury to deliver a perfect balance of back road thrills and long-distance comfort. There's nothing else like it on Canadian roads today--in fact, it's almost a car class unto itself. Its head-turning looks are enhanced by a low, wide stance, which also helps to give the Stinger its world-class handling.
Its sleek profile comes from a flowing fastback roofline that ends in an easily accessible rear hatch. Dual exhaust pipes hint at the power beneath the hood. The sleek cat's eye headlights are adaptive, changing to meet the road pitch and steering angle. Nine individual LED lights comprise the turn signals, creating a topaz crystal-like appearance. Altogether, the Stinger's styling cues make it one of the most distinctive modern cars ever built.
The Stinger's performance matches its extraordinary looks. Two turbocharged engine options offer power to spare, including the GT trim level's 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 that produces 365 horsepower and a thumping 376 lb.-ft. of torque. The twin-turbo's throaty roar announces that this is a muscle car for the modern age.
The Stinger has handling to match its horsepower. Its standard all-wheel-drive system features Torque Vectoring Control, which optimizes power output to each wheel depending on the driving situation. This results in maximum stability and handling even at the limit. Kia's engineers even spent two months in Sweden testing the Stinger on a frozen lake to fine-tune its grip in even the worst conditions. Available Brembo brakes give it stopping power to match its performance. Yet luxury hasn't been overlooked: the Stinger's Dynamic Stability Damping Control System allows you to adjust handling for ride comfort on rough roads or long commutes.
The Stinger offers a spacious passenger cabin that's very well-appointed even in base model trim. With LED lighting and available Nappa leather seating, the interior includes the full array of Kia technology including Apple and Android phone integration, wireless charging, an 8-inch multimedia interface, and an optional Harman Kardon premium audio system. GT-style seats with available air-cooling offer comfort to go with their high-performance support.
